  1. WHAT TUXIL COLD & FLU CAPSULES IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR 

Tuxil Cold & Flu Capsules are used for the relief of the major symptoms of colds, chills, and influenza. The daytime (Tuxil-Day) capsule contain three (3) active ingredients (Paracetamol, Phenylephrine HCI, Cetirizine Dihydrochloride) while the night-time (Tuxil-Night) capsule contains four active ingredients (Paracetamol, Phenylephrine HCI, Chlorpheniramine Maleate, Dextromethorphan Hbr). Paracetamol is a painkiller and reduces your temperature when you have a fever; Phenylephrine HCI is a vasoconstrictor and decongestant; Cetirizine Dihydrochloride is a non-sedating antihistamine; Chlorpheniramine Maleate is a sedating antihistamine; and Dextromethorphan hydrobromide is a cough suppressant that helps relieve dry or tickly coughs. 

      2. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU TAKE TUXIL COLD & FLU CAPSULES Check before you take Tuxil Cold & Flu Capsules

Do not take Tuxil Cold & Flu Capsules: 

  • If you have ever had an allergic reaction to the active or any of the other ingredients. 
  • If you have high blood pressure or heart disease. 
  • If you have kidney problems or hyperexcitability. 
  • If you have a chest infection, worsening asthma or severe respiratory problems. 
  • If you are taking appetite suppressants or stimulant drugs called amphetamines [sometimes used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)]. 
  • If you have taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) prescribed for depression in the last two weeks 
  • If you’re having pregnancy test carried out 
  • With any other paracetamol-containing products 
  • With any other flu, cold or decongestant product 

Take special care with Tuxil Cold & Flu Capsules 

  • Do not drink alcohol while using Tuxil Cold & Flu capsules 
  • If your symptoms are accompanied by a high temperature, skin rash or persistent headache, see your doctor. 

Driving and operating machinery 

Tuxil Day capsules may cause dizziness in some people. If affected, do not drive or operate machinery. 

  • Tuxil Night capsule may cause drowsiness, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, movement difficulties or blurred vision. These can affect your ability to drive. 
  • Do not drive while taking this medicine until you know how it affects you.
  • It may be an offence to drive when taking this medicine. 

However, you would not be committing an offence if the medicine has been taken to treat a medical condition, and you have taken it according to the information provided with the medicine, and it was not affecting your ability to drive safely. 

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure whether it is safe for you to drive or operate machinery while taking this medicine. 

Ask your doctor before taking this medicine

  • If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to any of the ingredients. 
  • If you have asthma, long term cough or a cough which produces a lot of phlegm. 
  • If you are due to have a surgery. 
  • If you are elderly and suffer from confusion. 

If you are taking other medicines 

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking these capsules if you are taking any prescribed medicines containing; particularly digoxin (for heart problems); metoclopramide or domperidone (for nausea or vomiting); cholestyramine (to lower blood cholesterol); medicines for high blood pressure; medicines which give you blurred vision, a dry mouth or make you drowsy; blood thinning drugs (anticoagulants e.g. warfarin); quinidine or amiodarone (to control your heart rhythm); medicines for anxiety or depression (e.g. selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) or tricyclic antidepressant) or help you sleep. 

Pregnancy and breast feeding 

Do not take Tuxil Cold & Flu Capsules if you are breast feeding or pregnant. 

  3. HOW TO TAKE TUXIL COLD & FLU CAPSULES 

Tuxil Day Capsule: Swallow 2 capsules, with water, every four hours up to three doses during the day. 

Tuxil Night Capsule: Swallow 2 capsules with water at bedtime. 

  • After taking the Tuxil Day capsule, wait at least four hours before taking the Night-time capsule. 
  • Do not take Tuxil Night capsule if you have already taken 4 doses of a paracetamol-containing product during the day. 
  • Do not take more than 6 day-time capsules in 24 hours. 

Only take one dose of night-time (2) capsules per night. 

  • Do not take for more than 3 days. 
  • Do not take if you are under 12 years. 
  • Do not take more than the recommended dose. 
  • If your symptoms persist after 3 days, see your doctor. 

If you take more than the recommended dose 

Immediate medical advice should be sought in the event of an overdose, even if you feel well, because of the risk of delayed, serious liver damage. 

4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS 

Like all medicines, Tuxil Cold & Flu Capsules can have side effects, but not everybody gets them. Older people are more prone to these side effects. 

Tuxil Day Capsule 

Side Effects: 

Possible but unlikely side effects associated with the use of this medication include: Drowsiness, nervousness, sleeplessness, excessive tiredness, dry mouth, dizziness, sore throat, abdominal pain, nosebleed, cough, headache, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting. 

Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away

Serious Side Effects 

Possible but very rarely experienced side effects could include: 

  • Allergic reactions, which may be severe and include: 
  • Skin rashes, itching or hives 

Swelling of the throat, tongue, or face 

  • Shortness of breath or wheezing 
  • Skin rash or peeling, or mouth ulcers 
  • Breathing problems. This is more likely if you have experienced them before when taking other 

painkillers such as ibuprofen and aspirin 

  • Unexplained bruising or bleeding or becoming unusually tired. Getting more infections than usual. 
  • Liver problems. Nausea, sudden weight loss, loss of appetite and yellowing of the eyes and skin can occur 
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing 

If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately. 

Tuxil Day Capsule may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problem not mentioned in this leaflet while taking this medication. 

Tuxil Night Capsule 

Side Effects 

Nervousness, dizziness, sleeplessness, drowsiness, dry mouth, nose, and throat, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, constipation, headache, increased chest congestion, lightheadedness, restlessness, stomach pain. 

Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away

Serious Side Effects 

Possible but very unlikely side effects can result from the use of this medication. Stop taking this medicine and tell your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following severe symptoms: 

  • Allergic reactions, which may be severe and include: 

Skin rashes, itching or hives 

  • Swelling of the throat, tongue, or face 
  • Shortness of breath or wheezing 
  • Skin rash or peeling, or mouth ulcers 
  • Breathing problems. This is more likely if you have experienced them before when taking other painkillers such as ibuprofen and aspirin

Tuxil Night Capsule may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problem not mentioned in this leaflet while taking this medication. 

5. HOW TO STORE TUXIL COLD & FLU CAPSULES 

Keep all medicines out of the reach of children. 

Store below 30°C, in a dry place. 

Do not use Tuxil Cold & Flu capsules after the expiry date ‘Exp. Date’ which is stated on the pack. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. 

Medicines should not be disposed via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

Tuxil Day Capsule 

Tuxil Day Capsule contains Paracetamol 500 mg, Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 7.5 mg and Cetirizine Dihydrochloride 1.5mg. 

Tuxil Night Capsule 

Tuxil Night Capsule contains Paracetamol 500 mg, Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 7.5 mg, Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 7.5 mg and Chlorpheniramine Maleate 2mg.
